\subsection*{Interview with Radha Jagadeesan}

\end{center}

Yesterday's invited speaker has worked on many topics, from
Programming Language Semantics to Security, Model Checking and
Concurrency Theory. Radha Jagadeesan's FOSSACS invited talk was on
``Formal Foundations for Aspects'', in particular on the use of types
and equational reasoning.

\begin{description}

\item[ETAPS daily] You have worked on many different areas of Computer
Science; is there a common thread or a common motivation that has
  guided your work?
\item[R.J.] Well, I think basically what has guided my work has been
different applications of Logic and Semantics. That's the common
  thread.

\item[ETAPS daily] What has brought your attention to Aspects?
\item[R.J.] I was asked to give a talk to industry on this topic,
which I wasn't familiar with. That was the first contact with the
  area.

\item[ETAPS daily] Should we all be paying attention to this area?
\item[R.J.] Well, there's a lot of software where aspects are
used. It's an important application area, and we ought to do do
  something about it.

\item[ETAPS daily] What do you think are the major challenges for
people with the same perspective as you, of applying Logic and
  Semantics in practical contexts?
\item[R.J.] That's too difficult a question, I won't risk answering
  that one!

\item[ETAPS daily] And what do you think of as a personal research
  challenge in the near future?
\item[R.J.] That's easier, but still a difficult question! Types
interest me in any context. Finding expressive types for different
applications, and seeing how types can help, as in the talk I just gave.

% Translated and abridged from Wikipedia.pt:

\begin{quotation}\noindent
In 1906 , a group of people had the idea of creating Theatro
Circo. In this time the city possessed only the small Geraldo
theater (now a bank); Theatro Circo would thus come to satisfy the
needs raised by the development of theatrical activities that was
taking placing in the entire country.

Theatro Circo was designed by the architect Moura Coutinho, and
constructed in part in the building of the Convent of the
Remedies. The works were initiated in 1911 and finished three years
later. The main room, of Italian style, had a capacity of 1500
places. Theatro Circo was immediately considered one of the greatest
and most beautiful theaters in Portugal.

It was inaugurated on April 21, 1915, with the operetta by
Leoncavallo ``La Reginetta delle Rose'' (the Queen of the
Roses). Between 1918 and 1925 the Theatro Circus received great
operatic productions. It also saw a number of artistic revelations
with the inaugural performances of the \emph{Orfeão de Braga} and
  the Symphonic Orchestra of Braga.

In the 1930s music, cinema, and lighter dramatic forms predominated.
In the year of 1933, a change of management took place, and in 1935
the \emph{Sociedade Dramática Bracarense} gave its first
  performance.

% During the dictatorship, Theatro Circo was used for political
% campaigns and acts of propaganda. On June 1 1958, people were
% invited to assist, from the balcony of the theater's Hall, to the
% enormous violence exerted by police forces on the followers of the
% democratic opposition led by General Humberto Delgado.

In 1987, after a period of decline, the \emph{Companhia de Teatro de
Braga} group took residence in Theatro Circo. One year later, in
1988, the City council of Braga acquires the Theatro.

At the end of the 1990s the City council of Braga, the Ministry of
Culture and the Operational Plan for Culture came up with a project
to restore the building. Two new rooms, an exhibition area, a
bookstore, restaurant, and concert bar were created, and the main
room equipped for all types of performance arts, but also for
  conferences and similar events.

have been leaders in the development of Internet Protocol (IP)-based
networking technologies. Today, with more than 47,000 employees
worldwide, this tradition of innovation continues with
industry-leading products and solutions in the company's core
development areas of routing and switching, as well as in advanced
technologies such as: IP Communications, Network Security, Wireless
LAN, Storage Area Networking, Home Networking, Video Systems,
Application Networking Services

Cisco has been at the heart of many historic changes in technology,
and that continues to be true today. Now, at a time when the
technology industry is going through a period of dramatic change,
Cisco is the market leader in multiple areas, such as routing and
switching, unified communications, wireless and security. The company
helped catalyze the industry's move toward IP and, now that it is
