\subsection*{Welcome to ETAPS 2007}

The European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software
(ETAPS) is the primary European forum for academic and industrial
researchers working on topics relating to Software Science. ETAPS,
established in 1998, is a confederation of five main annual
conferences, accompanied by satellite workshops and other
events. ETAPS 2007 in Braga is the tenth event in the series, after
Lisbon, Amsterdam, Berlin, Genova, Grenoble, Warsaw, Barcelona,
Edinburgh, and Vienna.

Over 9 days, ETAPS 2007 will offer 7 invited talks by distinguished
speakers, 5 main conferences, 17 workshops, 3 tutorials, and a
significant number of invited talks specific to the satellite
events. Overall, this year the five main conferences received around
630 submitted papers, with an acceptance rate of 25\%. The high quality
and quantity of the submitted papers required the overlapping of four
conferences on Wednesday, for the first time in the history of ETAPS.

ETAPS 2007 marks the tenth anniversary of the conference. To
celebrate the event, brief talks will be given by some of those
who have been involved in ETAPS over the years: Hartmut
Ehrig, Reinhard Wilhelm, Don Sannella, José Fiadeiro, and Perdita
Stevens. An informal panel will follow.

\subsection*{Welcome to Braga}

ETAPS 2007 will be held in Braga, an ancient city in the heart of
the green and fertile region known as the Costa Verde in the North of
Portugal. It is the capital of the Minho province, and
formerly was (as Bracara Augusta) the capital of the Roman province of
Gallaecia,
and of the Suebic kingdom in Gallaecia.

Braga, which is known for its baroque churches and splendid 18th
century
houses, is a modern, fast-growing commercial town. The old city,
solemn and antique, is animated with academic and cultural life and
with
its characterful nineteenth-century cafés, a good choice of
restaurants serving splendid traditional gastronomy, and a number of
lively bars.

\subsection*{How to Get to Braga }

There are several ways to go from the Oporto Airport to Braga:

\begin{description}
\item[Taxi]\

Taking a taxi is the simplest and the fastest way (45 min). The
distance between the Oporto airport and Braga is about 50km by
road. The cost of traveling from the airport to the Braga city center
should be around EUR 50.00.

\item[Metro+Train] (The cheapest way)
\begin{enumerate}
 \item
    Take the metro to Oporto Railway Station "Campanhã". Line E
      (Violet) goes to "Estadio do Dragão". Exit at Campanhã. The
      metro ticket should cost you around EUR 2.00.
 \item
    Take a train from the Campanhã train station to Braga. The train
      ticket should cost you about EUR 2.00. In general the earliest
      train to Braga leaves from Porto-Campanhã station at 6:21.
\end{enumerate}

\item[Rental Car / Driving]\

The following car hire companies have offices at the Oporto
International Airport: Budget, Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo
and SIXT. See the airport webpage for details (location, contacts. etc).

Take the A3 motorway from Porto to Braga; exit at "Braga Sul", and
then always follow the signs to Braga Sul. If you are driving directly
to the university campus, follow the directions to Chaves and then
Universidade do Minho. You may park your car in the campus.
\end{description}

\subsection*{How to get to the University Campus at Gualtar}

Satellite events on March 24 and 25 will take place at the University
Campus, in the area of the city known as Gualtar. If the weather is
nice, you may want to walk. It should take you about 30 minutes from
the city center. Walk in the direction of Bom Jesus, through Rua de
S. Vitor, Rua de D. Pedro V, and Rua Nova de Sta. Cruz.

Alternatively you can use the shuttle that will run on Saturday and
Sunday. Shuttles will leave from two locations in the city center, see
timetable below and map.

At the campus (see map) you should have no trouble in finding the CP2
building, where events will be located. This is the first building you
will see coming from the city center.

The registration desk will be located in the entrance hall of the CP2
building. The opening hours are 8:30 - 18:00. Lunch (included in the
workshops daily fees) will be served at the university restaurant.
