The study from NatCen found that 30% of those polled described themselves as either “very” or “a little” racially prejudiced. NatCen says the proportion has increased since the start of the century and reached the level seen 30 years ago. A leading professor claims that rainy weather makes us just as happy as sunshine. Professor of behavioural science Paul Dolan says studies have shown that people who live in warm and sunny climates are no happier than those who live in cooler, wetter regions. He says people only feel sad in bad weather because they dwell on it too much. NHS SLIMMING CLUBS FOR OBESE The NHS should send obese and overweight people to slimming clubs, says new guidance. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence says sending people on "lifestyle weight management programmes" will save the health service money. It claims that 64% of those classified as obese or overweight would enjoy significant benefits. Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik are featured in the footage on their South American tour, published by the Daily Mail. Tomlinson says: “So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days.” Meanwhile, Malik is smoking a rolled-up cigarette. POLICE LAUNCH FOOTBALL FIX PROBE Police are launching an investigation into attempts to fix a friendly football match between Scotland and Nigeria. Officers from Britain’s equivalent of the FBI, the National Crime Agency, have asked Fifa to issue an alert over potential bids to rig the game, says the Daily Telegraph. The match, seen as a World Cup warm-up, is due to be played at Craven Cottage. LORD OAKESHOTT QUITS LIB DEMS Senior Lib Dem peer Lord Oakeshott has quit the party and warned that it is "heading for disaster" under the leadership of Nick Clegg. He said the Lib Dems had lost their "roots, principles and values". His announcement came after it emerged he had commissioned polls that suggested the party would be better off without Clegg. SPURS APPOINT MAURICIO POCHETTINO Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager. The Argentine resigned from Southampton after 18 months with the club to sign the five-year deal with the North London side. He becomes Spurs’ 10th manager since 2001. HOT TICKET: AI WEIWEI UK SHOWS Two new UK exhibitions by dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei have opened at the Lisson Gallery, London and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield.
